The Fragrance World

by Passion For Perfume

Nowadays, it is almost impossible to choose a fragrance that suits. In the months August to September 2007 there were over 30 new launches from an already saturated market. These range from the cheaper ones like Colleen (100ml for under £20) to the more expensive ones like Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste (£42 for 65ml)

There has also been a sudden surge in the amount of "celebrities" launching there own fragrance. I use the term "celebs" lightly - fragrances have recently been launched by "C" listers Shilpa Shetty (famous for Big Brother) and Coleen McLoughlin (famous for being Wayne Rooney's girlfriend) and join fragrances launched by Jade Goody (Big Brother) and Calum Best (George Best's son). On the other end of the scale there are "A List" celebs Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani, Katie Price, Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey also bringing out a fragrance. I can understand the reason why - there have been some very successful celebrity fragrance launches from "A listers" which include Britney Spears, Sean John Unforgivable (P Diddy), Kylie Minogue, David Beckham and Celine Dion which have earned millions of pounds.

Add these to the recent launches from famous brands such as Hugo Boss XX and XY, CKIN2U, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Paul Smith Rose, Diesel, Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste, Valentino Rock n Rose, Dior Midnight Poison and In White from Jesus Del Pozo (to name a few) many people will ask "WHAT DO I BUY?"

How To Choose

It is really difficult to recommend a fragrance to everyone because, generally, most fragrances actually smell differently on each person's skin, and also, naturally, everyone has their own specific taste. I have split the types into 2 different categories, Celebrity and Luxury;

Celebrity fragrance - This is a difficult one for those with partners! Do you buy the fragrance because you want your partner to be like the celebrity? (Katie Price, Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue, David Beckham, Gwen Stefani, P Diddy, Mariah Carey etc) or is it because you admire them for their work? Your partner could also have a high regard for the celebrity which is an easier excuse and reason for purchase! (Price ranges from £19.95 to £35 depending on size of bottle) - Buy these fragrances for the "celeb conscious" person who strives to be "part of a crowd"

Luxury Fragrance - This type of fragrance has the air of exclusivity and refinement that goes with the purchase. If you really want to treat a loved one I would suggest purchasing fragrance by Bvlgari, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Carolina Hererra, Donna Karan (DKNY), Davidoff, Tommy Hilfiger, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci or Dolce and Gabbana to name a few. (Prices range from £25 - £60 depending on size) - Buy these fragrances for ultimate satisfaction and gratitude, where the wearer feels special and luxurious.

The price of a product depends on several factors; the type of scent (EDP, EDT, EDC), designer brand and, of course, the size. The most expensive are the pure perfume products, followed by EDP, EDT and EDC/Aftershave. Eau De Parfum (EDP) generally has an 8-15% concentration of perfume oil and the scent will evaporate in 5-8 hours. Eau de Toilette (EDT) has a 4-8% concentration of perfume oil and the scent will evaporate between 4-6 hours whilst Aftershave generally evaporates between 2-4 hours with a 3-5% concentration.

Good luck with your choice!
